ANDROID: GKI: remove info print for header generation
Script doesn't honor the Kernel's quiet command
mechanism with KBuild; so need to remove info
only echo. Added set -x in case make V=1 for keeping
debugging handy for script in the future.

When compiling modules with a large number of object files, echo $(addprefix $(obj)/, /* the member .o's of module */) may result in an a command line which is too long. To help alleviate this problem, echo the members intermediate objects and add $(obj)/ prefix within AWK itself. FROMGIT: kbuild: read *.mod to get objects passed to $(LD) or $(AR)
ld and ar support @file, which command-line options are read from.
Now that *.mod lists the member objects in the correct order, without
duplication, it is ready to be passed to ld and ar.
By using the @file syntax, people will not be worried about the pitfall
described in the NOTE.

FROMGIT: kbuild: make *.mod not depend on *.o
The dependency
$(obj)/%.mod: $(obj)/%$(mod-prelink-ext).o
... exists because *.mod files previously contained undefined symbols,
which are computed from *.o files when CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS=y.
Now that the undefined symbols are put into separate *.usyms files,
there is no reason to make *.mod depend on *.o files.

It is allowed to add the same objects multiple times to obj-y / obj-m: obj-y += foo.o foo.o foo.o obj-m += bar.o bar.o bar.o It is also allowed to add the same objects multiple times to a composite module: obj-m += foo.o foo-y := foo1.o foo2.o foo2.o foo1.o This flexibility is useful because the same object might be selected by different CONFIG options, like this: obj-m += foo.o foo-y := foo1.o foo-$(CONFIG_FOO_X) += foo2.o foo-$(CONFIG_FOO_Y) += foo2.o The duplicated objects are omitted at link time. It works naturally in Makefiles because GNU Make removes duplication in $^ without changing the order. It is working well, almost... A small flaw I notice is, *.mod contains duplication in such a case. This is probably not a big deal. As far as I know, the only small problem is scripts/mod/sumversion.c parses the same file multiple times. I am fixing this because I plan to reuse *.mod for other purposes, where the duplication can be problematic. The code change is quite simple. We already use awk to drop duplicated lines in modules.order (see cmd_modules_order in the same file). I copied the code, but changed RS to use spaces as record separators. I also changed the file format to list one object per line. FROMGIT: kbuild: split the second line of *.mod into *.usyms
The *.mod files have two lines; the first line lists the member objects
of the module, and the second line, if CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS=y, lists
the undefined symbols.
Currently, we generate *.mod after constructing composite modules,
otherwise, we cannot compute the second line. No prerequisite is
required to print the first line.
They are orthogonal. Splitting them into separate commands will ease
further cleanups.
This commit splits the list of undefined symbols out to *.usyms files.
Previously, the list of undefined symbols ended up with a very long
line, but now it has one symbol per line.

Precisely speaking, when you get the stem of the path, you should use
$(patsubst $(obj)/%,%,...) instead of $(notdir ...).
I do not see this usecase, but if you create a composite object in a
subdirectory, the Makefile should look like this:
obj-$(CONFIG_FOO) += dir/foo.o
dir/foo-objs := dir/foo1.o dir/foo2.o
The member objects should be assigned to dir/foo-objs instead of
foo-objs.
This syntax is more consistent with commit

gcc-plugins: latent_entropy: use /dev/urandom

While the latent entropy plugin mostly doesn't derive entropy from
get_random_const() for measuring the call graph, when __latent_entropy is
applied to a constant, then it's initialized statically to output from
get_random_const(). In that case, this data is derived from a 64-bit
seed, which means a buffer of 512 bits doesn't really have that amount
of compile-time entropy.
This patch fixes that shortcoming by just buffering chunks of
/dev/urandom output and doling it out as requested.
At the same time, it's important that we don't break the use of
-frandom-seed, for people who want the runtime benefits of the latent
entropy plugin, while still having compile-time determinism. In that
case, we detect whether gcc's set_random_seed() has been called by
making a call to get_random_seed(noinit=true) in the plugin init
function, which is called after set_random_seed() is called but before
anything that calls get_random_seed(noinit=false), and seeing if it's
zero or not. If it's not zero, we're in deterministic mode, and so we
just generate numbers with a basic xorshift prng.
Note that we don't detect if -frandom-seed is being used using the
documented local_tick variable, because it's assigned via:
local_tick = (unsigned) tv.tv_sec * 1000 + tv.tv_usec / 1000;
which may well overflow and become -1 on its own, and so isn't
reliable: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=105171

The object-size sanitizer is redundant to -Warray-bounds, and inappropriately performs its checks at run-time when all information needed for the evaluation is available at compile-time, making it quite difficult to use: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214861 With -Warray-bounds almost enabled globally, it doesn't make sense to keep this around. atomics: Fix atomic64_{read_acquire,set_release} fallbacks

Arnd reports that on 32-bit architectures, the fallbacks for
atomic64_read_acquire() and atomic64_set_release() are broken as they
use smp_load_acquire() and smp_store_release() respectively, which do
not work on types larger than the native word size.
Since those contain compiletime_assert_atomic_type(), any attempt to use
those fallbacks will result in a build-time error. e.g. with the
following added to arch/arm/kernel/setup.c:

Fix this by only using smp_load_acquire() and smp_store_release() for
native atomic types, and otherwise falling back to the regular barriers
necessary for acquire/release semantics, as we do in the more generic
acquire and release fallbacks.
Since the fallback templates are used to generate the atomic64_*() and
atomic_*() operations, the __native_word() check is added to both. For
the atomic_*() operations, which are always 32-bit, the __native_word()
check is redundant but not harmful, as it is always true.
For the example above this works as expected on 32-bit, e.g. for arm
multi_v7_defconfig:

kconfig: fix failing to generate auto.conf

kconfig: let 'shell' return enough output for deep path names

The 'shell' built-in only returns the first 256 bytes of the command's
output. In some cases, 'shell' is used to return a path; by bumping up
the buffer size to 4096 this lets us capture up to PATH_MAX.

Makefile.extrawarn: Move -Wunaligned-access to W=1
commit 1cf5f151d25fcca94689efd91afa0253621fb33a upstream.
-Wunaligned-access is a new warning in clang that is default enabled for
arm and arm64 under certain circumstances within the clang frontend (see
LLVM commit below). On v5.17-rc2, an ARCH=arm allmodconfig build shows
1284 total/70 unique instances of this warning (most of the instances
are in header files), which is quite noisy.
To keep a normal build green through CONFIG_WERROR, only show this
warning with W=1, which will allow automated build systems to catch new
instances of the warning so that the total number can be driven down to
zero eventually since catching unaligned accesses at compile time would
be generally useful.

FROMLIST: kbuild: install the modules.order for external modules
Add support to install the modules.order file for external modules
during module_install in order to retain the Makefile ordering
of external modules. This helps reduce the extra steps necessary to
properly order loading of external modules when there are multiple
kernel modules compiled within a given KBUILD_EXTMOD directory.
To handle compiling multiple external modules within the same
INSTALL_MOD_DIR, kbuild will append a suffix to the installed
modules.order file defined like so:
echo "${KBUILD_EXTMOD}" | md5sum | cut -d " " -f 1
Example:
KBUILD_EXTMOD=/mnt/a.b/c-d/my_driver results in:
modules.order.7dd3eb90588c21ac15f23a96c2f6d8ec
The installed module.order.$(extmod_suffix) files can then be appended
to the staging modules.order file which defines the order to load all of
the modules during boot.

scripts/dtc: dtx_diff: remove broken example from help text

dtx_diff suggests to use <(...) syntax to pipe two inputs into it, but
this has never worked: The /proc/self/fds/... paths passed by the shell
will fail the `[ -f "${dtx}" ] && [ -r "${dtx}" ]` check in compile_to_dts,
but even with this check removed, the function cannot work: hexdump will
eat up the DTB magic, making the subsequent dtc call fail, as a pipe
cannot be rewound.
Simply remove this broken example, as there is already an alternative one
that works fine.

recordmcount.pl: fix typo in s390 mcount regex
commit 4eb1782eaa9fa1c224ad1fa0d13a9f09c3ab2d80 upstream.
Commit 85bf17b28f97 ("recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well
as bcrl on s390") added a new alternative mnemonic for the existing brcl
instruction. This is required for the combination old gcc version (pre 9.0)
and binutils since version 2.37.
However at the same time this commit introduced a typo, replacing brcl with
bcrl. As a result no mcount locations are detected anymore with old gcc
versions (pre 9.0) and binutils before version 2.37.
Fix this by using the correct mnemonic again.

FROMLIST: kbuild: install the modules.order for external modules
Add support to install the modules.order file for external modules
during module_install in order to retain the Makefile ordering
of external modules. This helps reduce the extra steps necessary to
properly order loading of external modules when there are multiple
kernel modules compiled within a given KBUILD_EXTMOD directory.
To handle compiling multiple external modules within the same
INSTALL_MOD_DIR, kbuild will append a suffix to the installed
modules.order file defined like so:
echo ${KBUILD_EXTMOD} | sed 's:[./_]:_:g'
Ex:
KBUILD_EXTMOD=/mnt/a.b/c-d/my_driver results in:
modules.order._mnt_a_b_c_d_my_driver
The installed module.order.$(extmod_suffix) files can then be cat'd
together to create a single modules.order file which would define the
order to load all of the modules during boot.

recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well as bcrl on s390
commit 85bf17b28f97ca2749968d8786dc423db320d9c2 upstream. On s390, recordmcount.pl is looking for "bcrl 0,<xxx>" instructions in the objdump -d outpout. However since binutils 2.37, objdump -d display "jgnop <xxx>" for the same instruction. Update the mcount_regex so that it accepts both. ANDROID: kbuild: add support for compiling external device trees
Similar to external modules, the device tree should also be allowed to be compiled using out-of-tree source. This would allow one to further separate the core kernel from the vendor-specific device trees. To do this, we just need to allow the user to set the "dtstree" and "DTC_INCLUDE" build properties in the build environment. To setup the external device tree, you can follow these steps: 1) Move the device tree to your out-of-tree project. 2) Move the dt-bindings to your out-of-tree project. 3) Configure your build environment to set the following variables: dtstree=/path/to/device/tree DTC_INCLUDE=/path/to/device/tree/dtc/include-prefixes If you are using build.sh, then you can use DTS_EXT_DIR to define the dtstree. ANDROID: setlocalversion: make KMI_GENERATION optional
GKI required the KMI_GENERATION to be added to the kernel version string, but this only makes sense for GKI kernels, for non-GKI kernels we don't need it. leaking_addresses: Always print a trailing newline
[ Upstream commit cf2a85efdade117e2169d6e26641016cbbf03ef0 ] For files that lack trailing newlines and match a leaking address (e.g. wchan[1]), the leaking_addresses.pl report would run together with the next line, making things look corrupted. Unconditionally remove the newline on input, and write it back out on output. nds32/ftrace: Fix Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'
I received a build failure for a new patch I'm working on the nds32
architecture, and when I went to test it, I couldn't get to my build error,
because it failed to build with a bunch of:
Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'
issues with various files. Those files were temporary asm files that looked
like: kernel/.tmp_mc_fork.s
I decided to look deeper, and found that the "mc" portion of that name
stood for "mcount", and was created by the recordmcount.pl script. One that
I wrote over a decade ago. Once I knew the source of the problem, I was
able to investigate it further.
The way the recordmcount.pl script works (BTW, there's a C version that
simply modifies the ELF object) is by doing an "objdump" on the object
file. Looks for all the calls to "mcount", and creates an offset of those
locations from some global variable it can use (usually a global function
name, found with <.*>:). Creates a asm file that is a table of references
to these locations, using the found variable/function. Compiles it and
links it back into the original object file. This asm file is called
".tmp_mc_<object_base_name>.s".
The problem here is that the objdump produced by the nds32 object file,
contains things that look like:

Where ".L3^B1 is somehow selected as the "global" variable to index off of.
Then the assembly file that holds the mcount locations looks like this:

And when it is compiled back to an object to link to the original object,
the compile fails on the "^" symbol.
Simple solution for now, is to have the perl script ignore using function
symbols that have an "^" in the name.
